California celebrates, recognizes Eritrea’s independence at Capitol

Lawmakers marked Eritrea’s independence at the California State Capitol Friday.

Eritrea is 27-years-old and is located between Sudan and Ethiopia along the Red Sea.

Eritreans from Northern California came to Sacramento to celebrate. This is the first time the country’s independence is being recognized by the state.

The Eritreans gained their independence after a decades-long civil war with Ethiopia.
