Amid political turmoil that have been surfacing Egypt’s uneasiness over the Renaissance dam and other affiliated affairs, Ethiopian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Meles Alem, told reporters that the joint meeting is a consultative forum between both countries in trade, expanding commercial activities and different domains. By slamming the remarks that Ethiopia is sacrificing Sudan in the trilateral Nile affairs, Meles Alem asserts both countries readiness to resolve their differences apparently.
After closing its borders with Eritrea and declared strict surveillance across the line with Egypt, Sudan is still volatile and has been in intermittent tension with Cairo. Ethiopia’s premier delegation in Cairo, however, denies any mission of deliberating on the Nile-riparian and trending regional issues with Egypt. “This meeting was rescheduled, already planned and is not a new phenomenon,” added Meles Alem from Cairo.
Moreover, regarding Eritrea’s vehement denial and elaborations on the fabricated but hyped media amplifications on the presence of Egypt and Emirates forces in Sawa, the Ethiopian spokesperson clarified that “it is better to inquire to those who are concerned.” In a telephone interview he gave to Voice of America, member of the Ethiopian Foreign Ministry criticized ‘perverted’ media skeptic rumors if Ethiopia is not following manipulative policies on the Egypt-Sudan relationship.
Meanwhile, it is recalled that the first two weeks of 2018 has been overwhelmed by intermittent Horn Africa countries delegations meetings, embracing Eritrea’s president visit to Emirates and Egypt, Ethiopia’s Foreign Ministry visit to UAE and Khartoum, Ethiopian premier to Cairo and, by the same coin, Egypt foreign minister tour to Addis Ababa, and recently, the autonomous region of Somalia—Somaliland’s—president arrival in Addis Ababa, are mentionable.
