Eritrea’s president reiterates country’s policies on immigrants in Israel, Clarifies on compensation prerequisites

“No one would, directly or indirectly, will decide on the future of our citizens, on the affairs of those immigrants enticed to leave to Israel. We are hearing rumors that there are some countries—though unverified—which has been in lists to accommodate Eritrean immigrants from Israel. Under what legalities, frames of mandatory and conventions would others decide on the future of our citizens,” authenticates Eritrea’s president in an interview he held with local media on January 20 of 2018.

Affirmed the denial of Eritrea’s government on manipulative policies of using the immigrants affair as source for political agenda and other crossroads, Mr. Isaias Afewerki elaborates the closure of conversation with Israeli government after Teal Aviv’s defiance to consider screening process thus to understand the status of Eritrea’s citizens.

“They are our citizens; we have to advocate for their affairs. When we proclaimed to Israeli bodies that at least, every immigrated citizen have to get a compensation of $50,000 as prerogative measurements, the conversation destined to closure. As those volunteer immigrants, those who are now started to be branded as ‘infiltrators’ by Israel, have the right to be catered or trained in profession, the compensation claim is shrouded on imperative aspects. When they returned home, they have to be helped in adjusting their life apparently,” he adds.

By probing Eritrean youth immigration within global parameters, “the ‘regime change’ plan was in dynamic schemes in the past range of years. And believed on a frail stance that bolds it is easy to resort into violent military retaliation for many Eritreans are regimentally trained, the erroneous calculations led to the organized crime of human-trafficking. Now attempts remained futile; the immigrants in Israel have started to be perceived as burden. It is quite embarrassing. They are human; they are our citizens who are deserved our advocacy,” the president attests.

Remembered for Eritrea’s intermittent call on UN and other affiliates to manage, at early stage, the then ulterior-seem possible repercussions of immigration within global context, Mr. Isaias criticized media-outlets role in dramatizing the affairs of immigrants. “What happened in Libya was, for a few days, a major issue in the boards of media; major outlets were tuned with that. Now it is oblivious. These haven’t to be part of the strategic chains. But we will not forget how to escalate what we have been doing in guaranteeing the rights of Eritreans, our immigrated citizens politically and diplomatically,” he emphasizes.

After unfolding that Eritrea has well-chronicled archives and pragmatic evidences on those who have direct and indirect intervention in the illegal immigration and its subsequent organized acts of human trafficking, Eritrea’s president underlines that there were confirmed police, security members and officials intervention from Sudan until Lampedusa, Italia and Europe. “We were, and have been, accelerating our efforts for UN to establish neutral body that would probe the gloomy affair. We were reiterating to Ban Ki Moon and others. But many have been turning it ‘U’,” he adds.

Mentioned that the most important and significant plans of the country has been assimilating other priorities of the youth, “it is not meant we are careless of their trends. Eritrean associations and unions like the National Union of Eritrean Youth and Students, PFDJ, NUEW, family and all members of the society have to shoulder their responsibility in pushing the awareness of the society up,” he concludes.

In this interview, the president clarified on experiences’ of the past years in tackling housing problems and future plans, aspects of fishing treasures challenges and opportunities, notions for industrial resurrection and manufacturing, issues of controlling monetary inflation and efforts to fight corruption and, among other, endeavors on food security and water supplies.
