CGTN: Time to Anchor from Eritrea?
CGTN: Time to Anchor from Eritrea?
By Yosief Abraham Z
With its motto ‘See the Difference,’ China Global Television Network (CGTN) has been expanding its stream to different parts of Africa. Highly denominated by the anchors from South-Africa, Kenya, Egypt and Nigeria, CGTN has been in the domain with rebalancing Africa’s coverage share by fighting perverted misunderstandings. And soon the expansionary media founded itself in motivating march in comparison with ‘African Voices’ of CNN, France 24’s ‘Eye on Africa’ and BBC’s ‘Focus on Africa.’
Yet not free from following giving more voices to the already voiced quarters; however, ‘Africa’s Live’ of the media center has been an opportune hub for intermittent coverage from South Africa and Egypt, followed by reflections from Zimbabwe, Nigeria and Kenya. According to the valedictory assessment by HorMid Media and Art Center, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Chad, Togo, Sao Tome and Principe, are the least covered states by CGTN thus to ‘see the difference’ from the manipulations of the west-perpetuated media anchors.
With expectations the media center to assess the roots of its motto as part of celebrating its one-year journey from CCTV News to CGTN, the media center has still an opportunity to tune the real difference by travelling to countries that are deserved to have their voices share in ‘Africa Live.’ Including to Eritrea, the whims for responsible Medias is still open in rest African countries, which only need trustworthy and synchronization of policies.
Embassy of China in Eritrea and Eritrea’s Information Ministry thus expect to facilitate their collaborative hands for achieving the real difference that we want to see.
