Eritrea is installing 10 kms of solar powered street lights in Asmara
Solar powered street lamps are being extensively installed in the streets of Asmara, the capital, the Head of Energy branch at the Central region Mr. Girmai Berhe reported. Mr. Girmai pointed out that, the installation project, which is being conducted with the cooperation of the government of China, includes the installation of 300 solar powered street lamps in 10 km and that the street lamps have already become operational.
Indicating that the project also Asmara: Installation of solar powered street lamps includes public places and recreation centers, Mr. Girmai said that several nationals have already been provided
training on maintenance of the street lamp.
It is to be recalled that in 2013 the first phase of the installation of the solar powered street lamps in 3.5 km long streets was conducted in some areas of Asmara.
Mr. Girmai indicated that sustainable maintenance will be needed for a longer term service of
the solar powered street lights that are installed with huge investment.
