Embassy of Eritrea to UK & Ireland rejects Commission of Inquiry report
Embassy of Eritrea to UK & Ireland
London 15th 2015
The Embassy of the State of Eritrea is appalled by the misguided media frenzy that has ensued as part of the smear campaign waged against the people and the government of Eritrea by the UN Commission of Inquiry. It is particularly dismayed by the extreme bias, and lack of journalistic ethics, which require skepticism and independent verification, in the Guardian's series of reports on the State of Eritrea and the activities of its Embassy in the United Kingdom.
The Embassy of Eritrea finds the reports to be utterly baseless and do nothing to improve or educate the public about the true state of affairs in Eritrea or its overseas Missions, instead it serves as a platform for presenting the views of a politically motivated fringe group with little constituency in the vast Eritrean Diaspora, thus resulting in a distorted approach and affecting the content and credibility of its reports.
The Embassy of Eritrea categorically rejects the report released by the Commission of Inquiry on 8 June 2015. The Commission of Inquiry has presented yet another distorted version of events in Eritrea, based on hearsay and innuendos. The terminology and language used by the Commission belittles the very essence of independent Eritrea, and undermines Eritrea's sovereign rights. Since, the report and its authors are part of a long history of hostility towards the people and government of Eritrea, the government and people of Eritrea will respond in the appropriate manner and forum.
The government of Eritrea and all of its Diplomatic Missions operate in accordance with the local legal procedures as well as international law. Notwithstanding this fact, UK based media outlets such as the Guardian, have taken part in whirl of unfounded allegations against the government of Eritrea, greatly undermining the public trust and credibility and professionalism of their work.
