AlJazeera Video: Ethiopian Migrants Drawn to Dangerous Journey Despite Risks
The Ethiopians in the video who mentioned they will attempt to get to Europe will do so by claiming they are Eritrean. It's an open secret that thousands of "Eritreans" entering Europe are in fact Ethiopians masquerading as Eritreans. They use the Eritrean identity when applying for asylum due to UNHCR's policy position of categorizing all Eritrean migrants as "prima faice asylum seekers" (i.e. automatic recognition of Eritreans en masse).
Eritreans were given this special status by UNHCR for political reasons. It was mainly put in place to induce Eritreans to leave their country by removing the criminal aspect of their migration and to force to hand of Western countries to accept Eritrean migrants as "refugees". Without UNHCR's designation, the threat of being arrested and deported back to their country would of discouraged many if not most from attempting such a dangerous and expensive voyage. It would of also deterred many African migrants, including Ethiopians, from using the Eritrean name to attempt such a journey.

There are millions from Eritrea taking the same journey you are describing in this video and yet you are worried about Ethiopian taking it and you have a video to how us your concern, hilarious!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteFew thousands of Ethiopians leave their country while millions of Eritrean have left their country. It is a shame to talk about their country instead of misery of our people. You should address why so many Eritreans leave their country? Why so many of us taking risky journey to reach to Europe? Why our Government is not addressing, show some sympathy, or give condolence to grieving families of Eritreans who lost their sons and daughters in the Medetrean sea while the entire Ethiopian people along with its government officials took a three day to moan and remember those who were killed in Libya? Are Eritrean blood so cheap not to remember? I feel ashamed to be called Eritrean anymore. Anyway, nothing is permanent except change. It may be remote for Eritrean people to live in their homeland proudly but it will happen one day. It is just a matter of time.

Isaias afewerki can try to hide behind any phony argument but the fact that he has been in the helm of Eritrean government unelected and accountable to no one but to himself demolishes all of multiple masks of pretense to good will, exposing his diabolical nature.
He is being investigated by UN for human right violation ,the outcome of which the European Union must not in any way undercut..in fact, it should apply pressure on him to cooperate and grant visa to the inquiring commission to enter Eritrea.
