One people one heart: United and One
By HidriDallas
Every great achievement is the victory of a flaming heart. On February 7th, 2015 HIDRI-Dallas put their blazing heart and passion for their rich culture on display at the 5th annual Hade Hizbi Hade Libi “One-People-One-Heart: United & One” Benefit Dinner. HIDRI Dallas, alongside YPFDJ Dallas, is once again pleased to announce that their fifth annual benefit dinner was an astounding success. The Eritrean community in Dallas and the surrounding areas are still a buzz from the amazing performance put on by HIDRI Dallas this past weekend.
This year’s Benefit Dinner theme was Unity in Diversity! Our goal with this event was to celebrate our nation #Eritrea strength due to its different culture, social and ethical elements! Eritrea’s strength comes not from its numbers, size or wealth; Eritrea’s strength is its diversity. “Nine but one” and “Hade hizbe, hade libe” (One people, one heart) are reflective of the true Eritrean spirit, that regardless of our beliefs or backgrounds we are one – we are Eritrea UNITED & ONE
HIDRI chose to take the audience on a virtual tour where we were able to visit the different regions of Eritrea to explore the nine Ethno-linguistic groups. We started in Debubawi Keyih Bahri (Northern Red Sea) and by the end of the night we found our self in Semienawi Keyih Bahri (Southern Region) having learned amazing facts about the Nine Ethno- linguistic groups, including traditional wear and their traditional dance performed by HIDRI-Dallas. HIDRIs amazing stage presence had the people of Dallas on their toes throughout the night. Everyone cried, laughed and danced the night away.
In between the virtual tour HIDRI-Dallas also prepared a dance commemorating the 35th Anniversary of National Union Eritrean Women’s organization. Eritrean women played a huge role in the armed struggle for independence, and continue to play an even bigger role now in helping preserve and maintain the Eritrean Legacy. HIDRI-Dallas is forever grateful for the continuous support from HAMADE-Dallas, and to show appreciation we dedicated part of our show to share our appreciation through our artistic performance.
HIDRI-Dallas clearly displayed their growth, prosperity and commitment to continue on the Eritrean Legacy. There is no greater strength than our unity; through their heart felt performances they were able to reach their long time goal of reigniting our Harmony. The venue was packed to capacity with a whopping 300+ people in the audience, and the guests shared that this was by far one of the largest and best youth organized events put on in the city of Dallas.
With so many people in attendance, as well as exceeding the online donation goal and having the continued support from those who could not attend, this dinner was able to be a success. None of this would be possible without the generosity of the Eritrean community both here in Dallas and across the nation. HIDRI & YPFDJ Dallas would like to thank the support of the donors, and the Dallas Eritrean community as a whole, for making the event a success. The support of all those who donated online, at the dinner, or by mail make certain that the programs we have in place like the Big Brother Big Sister Mentor Program, Eritrean Studies and HIDRI Dallas will grow to make a difference in more children’s lives. The continued support of the community is a true testament to the faith placed in our chapter and an affirmation that we will meet and exceed many of the goals projected for the upcoming year.
On behalf of Hidri Dallas we would like to give a big thank you to our donors for this event! Without you this event would not have been possible!
