Ethiopian Air Force pilots defected to Eritrea with Mi-35 Helicopter

The Ethiopian Defense Ministry confirmed its air force pilots defected to Eritrea, bringing with them their Mi-35 attack helicopter.

In its own spin on the incident, the defense ministry alleges the Mi-35 helicopter was hijacked while on a training mission by a disgruntled pilot, forcing the flight technicians and co-pilots to fly to Eritrea.

The two deserting pilots and technician, who have been identified as Cap. Samael Giday, Lut. Bilelegn Desalalegn and Tec. Tsega-berhan Gidaywho, escaped to Eritrea Friday morning, according to the Ethiopian Satellite Television news network.

On average, the Mi-35 helicopter costs between 20-35 million dollars each, making this incident among the most expensive military aircraft defections of late.

Air force defections from Ethiopia to Eritrea are growing increasingly common. In 2014, at least eleven Ethiopian air force pilots defected to Eritrea, bringing along with them various multimillion dollar military aircrafts.

  3. Madote,
Just for curiosity, are the helicopters two or one? Could you clarify on this. The Weyane seem to downplay it as a one helicopter case with a pilot, copilot and flight technician, which is still a heck of a lose on their end.

  4. It is laughable for Ethiopia to call its soldier agent of
    Eritrea when they defect.

    ReplyDelete
  5. according to ESAT, it is only one helicopter
    one pilot
    one co-pilot
    one or three technicians

  6. The helicopter is forced to land in Eritrea. The Eritrean government is responsible for letting the helicopter land and conspiring with the pilot. The mad man in Eritrea has to think twice before letting any body who is against Ethiopian people land in its soil. This is a declaration of war against Ethiopian, even though the Eritrean government has been doing this kind of activities for decades this act tops all of anti-Ethiopia movement from Eritrean government. The Eritrean government invaded Ethiopia, supported alshaba, supported olf and onlf, helped Muslims to revolt. Some body from the Ethiopian side must stop the Eritrean government. enough is enough!!

Ethiopia accuses Eritrea of hijacking helicopter

The Ethiopian Defense Ministry said in a statement that an Ethiopian helicopter – that has disappeared since Friday – was forced to land in neighboring Eritrea

    World Bulletin/News Desk

Ethiopia on Monday accused what it described as the "agents" of the regime in Eritrea of hijacking an Ethiopian helicopter.

The Ethiopian Defense Ministry said in a statement that an Ethiopian helicopter – that has disappeared since Friday – was forced to land in neighboring Eritrea.

It said the helicopter was on a training mission when the Ethiopian pilot forced a trainee and a technician on board to head to Eritrea.

"The agents of the Eritrean regime had carried out the helicopter hijacking," the Ethiopian Defense Ministry added in the statement.

It denounced what it called the "enemies of peace and democracy", probably in reference to the ruling regime in Eritrea.

It said "anti-peace" groups would not be able to impede development, peace and democracy in Ethiopia.

The Anadolu Agency could not immediately obtain comments from the Eritrean government on the accusations of the Ethiopian Defense Ministry.

Ethiopia and Eritrea have been on no-peace, no-war terms since 2000 when the war between the two African states came to an end over a border triangle.

The war left thousands of people dead on both sides.

The two sides have also been trading accusations of supporting internal opposition since the end of the war.

  12. It's dramatic news, a trend that won't stop soon or easily, no Ethiopian with conscience can endure it anymore and continue serving a mercenary rodent type regime that is consuming the country unchallenged for ever.

It's no secret that many are serving the Weyane lured by the (donated) money it can provide or for the sake of ensuring a daily meal, any one in a purposely impoverished society would not hesitate to act that way but not willingly or with loyalty.

The Weyane as usual will spin and exploit the event to the maximum, they may even get 10 better helicopters as compensation and raise their crawling morale, nevertheless, the only option left to the Weyane is to manufacture Robot-Pilots because an Ethiopian willing to serve them from now on will be a rarity.

  13. I never thought that the weyane tigray people front will admire that they start to loose the grap of power in Ethiopia that way. But it smells bad when The Wayne baboon start to feel the political reality of Ethiopia after start loosing blood from that low IQ brain of his start to confusse.

  17. What is Eritrea going to do with the 2 helicopters? Eritrea's entire airforce small as it is... has been grounded due to the arms embargo which prevents Eritrea from importing spareparts for its military equipment. In a couple of weeks these 2 helicopters are going to need maintenance and spareparts. What will Eritrea do with them? They can't even keep what they already have in working order. Ethiopia will simply buy more. Because we can!! hahahah!!!!

  22. The problem is this :
All eritrean helikopter pilots have fled and there is nobody thant can fly these tools. The other danger is that the ethiopian government can invade eritrea to take them back. In that case isayas can use the helikopters to flee to yemen.

  23. Is it act of war man?? You guys made a habit of talking out of your arses!! Don't make me lough!! Wey Tirse... Saqulush!! Ere saqulish new emelish!!!!

  24. Let alone Helicopter, peanut is too expensive for weyane baggers. You might be in denayal my friend, but this shows how Ethiopians are tired of your ethnocentric government. Gone Wayne gone 2015 is where you take your last breath, no more free villas in Addis.

  25. Don't worry, just like old times "gereb behakla" your wayane will provide us with parts too. By the way you are so distracted by this news you misspelled your nick name moran. Deep inside you know it well you will never win against the resilient people of Eritrea. Thanks for the gift ha ha ha

    ReplyDelete
  26. It's spelled "moron" you anbeta. Sawa prison camp graduate. So you got one helicoter... but you lost the war in 2000 in one week when you had 100s of helicopters and fighter jets. How's this addition of one helicopter to your already grounded air force is going to help you??

    ReplyDelete
  27. for ETHIOPIAN DF MINISTER to say the they hijacked by ERITREA is bad for their gov so if ETHIOPIA is the strongest millitary how did ERITREA hijack this pilots the ETHIOPIAN DF dont know is he thinks acuseing ERITREA but what he teliling the world is the ETHIOPIAN military is weak in securty if ERITREA is manege to hijack this pilots what was the ETHIOPIAN securty force was doing SLEEP that means ERITREA IS MORE stronger than THE ethiopian securty

  28. Mesfun is right, it's only one.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Dedebit, why are you missing the bigger picture. It's not gaining one helicopter that matters, it is the material and moral lose inflicted on your gangsters. By next year all your airforce members would have mistaken their base for Asmara. Can you not see the table is turning ??? It's the start of the end for your TPLF. Ouch !!! That must hurt!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. "Material and moral lose"? Seriously?? Eritrea is bleeding of its population... especially the young who are leaving the country by the thousands. An economy that does not exist, No electricity, sever shortages of food and fuel and rampant corruption. The only hope and future the young have to aspire to is to join SAWA to be trained how to be slaves for the Hamasien rulling class and you talk about "material and moral lose" because of a single helicopter??? "LibiTigray" not only do you not have a "libi" you got no brains.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ras Alula, you're improving, you got one statement correct and one wrong.
The correct one: "...grounded due to the embargo which prevented Eritrea from importing ..." (One of the many reasons of the unjust sanction)
The wrong one: "...you lost the war in 2000 (1998) in one week when you had 100s of helicopters....".

Be reminded that the US/UN, as soon as they saw the Eritrean Air Force's ability to retaliate and bombard Mekele they implored for an immediate moratorium (suspension) of air engagements, Eritrea accepted thus Weyane were saved

P.S. Change your pen name, in Eritrea Alula means an oath denier/Telam mahla (cursed traitor).

  32. Madote,
Charity starts at home, let's discuss how to change the misery of our people under the rule of a socially sick single dictator.

  33. If you got balls, go and bring them back. If you don't have one, just accept the fact the regime in Ethiopia is hated even by its none Tigrians Soldiers and millitary personals.

    ReplyDelete
  34. The disgruntled Weyane left no stone unturned to accuse my beloved Eritrea. The next batch of Sukhoi jet fighter will arrive in Eritrea soon.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Really, what happened the promise to your people lunch would be Asmera and dinner in Asseb, who do you think lost the war, geldame agame. You got annihilated and it won't be your last either.

    ReplyDelete
  36. The current Ethiopian regime will never take any serious action against shabia - you know that for a fact. It has been tested many times before. The Eriterean blood that flows in the streams of some heavyweight TPLF leaders and ANDM's Bereket would never allow this. We thought that was Meles's problem alone but turns out that TPLF is still under the tight grip of Eritreans and agents of Shabia. So, if you are real, Tegaru's should man up and kick out those Eritereans micromanaging Ethiopian affairs by camping within TPLF.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Julio?
Julio English, Julio Spanish or Julio GhebReAnenia?
You said, "so, if you are real, Tegaru's ...", You are most likely Julio GhebReAnenia from your choice of the word "Tegaru's".
In any case, you seem to have lost confidence in your woyane.
If I were you, I would! as they are heading to a dead end.
    Happy Holidays.

  38. sign of disintegrating system..long time ago started the decline of wey-ane minor group, This will continuing to increase..and wey-ane will continue to augment the security for nothing cause if loose people´s support you loose.
Before the boat will sink wey-ane need to do a complete radical change: leave ethiopia to the majority of it+s population

    ReplyDelete
  39. Thank you Madot and Mesfun. I was just curious. Otherwise, be it one or ten, the main thing is the moral defeat it inflicts in the Weyane's army. We have to ask the WarsayYikialo campaigners to build a new airport near the border, dedicated just for Ethiopian airforce deserters. Because they may ran out of fuel before they reach Sawa.

With New year and Xmas greetings,

    Segum tray bxay Ertrawi

  40. Just out of curiosity, has the Eritrean government confirmed that this has actually happened?

    ReplyDelete
  41. This is not a property of TPLF, this is the property of the people of Ethiopia. Shove your stupid TPLF -EPLF game in your ass. I hope the people of Eritrea understand this and give us back our helicopter. Your Shabia-woyane game is making me sick.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Why is it making you sick all of a sudden? You were not sick when Woyane guns down people in broad day light! You were not sick when Woyane is selling Ethiopia piece by piece to strangers! When these three people who are tired and angry of what they are seeing and flee
To Eritrea to show the world their disgust then you are tired ..... hmmmmmmm. The joke of the year is "Hajicked"
