By Waagacusub.net,

President of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt right after his plane landed in Djibouti airport.

One of the Presidential Guards known as "Garde Republique de Djibouti" fired upon and injured several officials including the president's doctor, Dr. Idiris Abdi Galab.

The President was returning to the country from IGAD Summit when the soldier started to shoot at the president's entourage.

Despite a failed assassination attempt, spokesman for the government who spoke to the VOA denied it.

Reliable sources confirmed that government officials including protocol officers died in the scene.

Ismail Omar Guelleh, who is one of the sustained African dictators faces challenges from his people who despise his iron-fist rule.

Commentators say this incident will create suspicion among the Republican Guards and the President himself.

One of the Opposition Leader says The President is wounded from the attack but is not yet verified.

  1. Here is Djibouti's spin on this clear assassination attempt on President Ismail Omar Guelleh:

    --------------------------

(AFP) - A Djiboutian presidential guard opened fire at the capital's airport Monday, wounding two people, a government spokesman said, adding that President Ismael Omar Guelleh was not present during the shooting.

One of those wounded in the shooting was the president's doctor, Colonel Idriss Abdi Galab.

"All we know is that this is an isolated act, we do not know what really went on in the head of the shooter," said Ibrahim Miyir, a senior official at the communication ministry, adding that investigations were ongoing.

Guelleh had already left the airport when the Republican Guard soldier opened fire, Miyir said.

The soldier was seized and arrested, the state news agency said.

The president travelled to neighbouring Ethiopia Monday to take part in a summit of regional leaders to push a ceasefire deal for war-torn South Sudan.

The Horn of Africa nation of Djibouti, a former French colony, hosts a strategic port serving landlocked Ethiopia on the Gulf of Aden, commanding the entrance to the Red Sea.

Djibouti is also home to the United States' biggest base in Africa which is used for anti-terror operations in Yemen and Somalia as well as for other operations across Africa.

France also maintains a military base in Djibouti.

Djibouti is also a key contributor of troops to the African Union force in neighbouring Somalia, battling Al-Qaeda-linked Shebab militants, who have staged attacks in retaliation.

  4. All of us will die, no one will forever. And we don't know exactly when, why and how we will live the continent forever.
So it is not important to wish for others death. You may be assassinated before him, as there is no safe place on earth.
    Comment wisely!

  5. The chickens come home to roast. Here's a man with more affinity to his ancestral land Ethiopia but running Djibouti, merely a country but rather a French Colony whose coastal territory leased by Africom and its port administered by Dubai, iron-fist where he can alter the electoral system to his likes at will, become a target of assassination. Though intentionally hidden by the main stream media, Djibouti's President has been in hot water for his brutality against his opponents who strongly criticized the way he was running the country. And the west did not and do not seem to care much given that their geopolitical interests under his leadership is fully protected. For many of the western countries, the lives of the inhabitants is of a little concern. Thus, people like Guelleh florish while millions across the world suffer.

  8. Ethiopia could be behind it. TPLF are known for such acts. They may have other plans behind the curtain. TPLF are like a parasite. They try destroy their host and and take advantage. They have done it to Eritrea, they have done it to Ethiopia, sucking Ethiopia to death and they have no shame to do anything. They are jealous of their friends and neighbors. It is not their fault as TPLF is born like that. It is their nature. The one solution for them is...

  10. Ah poor hailemelkot, it is your uncle from woyane junta who are masters of assassinations kidnappings, mass arrests and mass massacres behind the attempt. Woyane. is the most terrorist mafia in the region . The are masters in assassinations. Look what they have been doing in Kenya. The kenyan government was shocked the mafia woyane sending hit squads to Nairobi an barista in Kenya to terrorize the country. The Kenyans learned it was the woyane mission of kidnappers, hit squads and assassins who have terrorized Kenya. The foolish Kenyans were blaming al shabab. Woyane is the al shebab in Kenya. So nothing is secret now, woyanes are behind the Djibouti assassination attempt. Wiyanes do not have friends. They mess up in somalia, they invaded Somalia, invaded Eritrea, killing the oromos, the amharas, the ogadenise, the annauk, the begshawel and the afars. Your father is hit squad employed by ethiopian lieu (special assassination and intelligence unit).gussemo, swallow it. No secret in your crimes against ant country. The president of Djibouti is un suspecting and went to ethiopia for egad and woyane send him to Djibouti accompanied him with his hit assassination squad. Who can trust woyane. No one.you can eat dinner with Ethiopians and they can assassinate you when you left the house. This is the culture in tigray. They do not trust each other in tigray traditionally. Tegaru use 2or 3 Names to save themselves from their village enemies. It is their culture means crime is in their blood. You are one of them a.president Djibouti trusted woyane. He must be naïve, foolish.

  11. Fora are you in fear for yourself. Be careful from the woyanes. Stop you human trafficking. You doing business with WIGAN, trafficking people from Eritrea to tigray. Woyanes will confisicate your money and put you in shire endaselasie and ebndabaguna underground jail and bury you there. So chimika may likkeyo. Abbey deakeyterfeka. If you are living in Europe of course you will pay food you crimes

  12. I think you are right when you say "who can trust woyane". No one trusts woyane and that is why they are left in the cold without any friend and widely regarded as a pariah state throughout the world. These woyane juntas must go by any means possible, as they are only destroying the region at large and ethiopia in specific and it is good the world has cornered them in their inclaves without any chance to participate in any regional or international affairs, meetings, and summits. Although you are too hasty to make a conclusive judgment against the woyanes in the assasination attempt on the president of Djibouti, whatever you said above is flawless and to the point. But on a second thought, who else can be behind the assassination anyway, I am sure no one will ever think of pointing a finger at the lion of Nakfa-----A man of great heart and good intention for the region. Hoho, it is even weird to imagine that....sorry dear. The only thing you guys should do is, I would recommend, tighten the snooze which is already put round their ugly necks, by UN security council so that they will have difficulty to properly breath in and out...just to chock the life out of them. I hope you would agree with me, Don't you??

  17. dont give them that much credit, it is their masters that pull the strings, if it is time for hassan to go he will be made. so woyane is not playing coy and know its limits.
ethiopia is a failed state under woyane,
dont give 'em that much credit, a hostage of a hostage, we've got them by the ....
    u.s. ethi, and all.
