Russian business man says Eritrea is the perfect tourist destination

Dahlak Resort

Russian business man looking for contacts in Eritrea

By Roman Khodus

I found the perfect tourism destination for Russians – a country called Eritrea – let me explain why and start with an observation made by a travel columnist.

Gunnar Garfors, a Norwegian travel columnist said about Eritrea that it is a tourist destination virtually unheard of.

For us Russians holiday at sea is a ritual, which must occur at least once a year. Only after that the Russians may feel fully rested and ready for a new working year.

Holidays at sea includes the sun, the beach and of course the sea itself. None of the resorts in the central and northern part of Russia can be compared with the effect of beach holidays in the southern hemisphere. However holidays must pass quality, safe and be relatively inexpensive.

I remember during Soviet times, Russians took their vacations on the Black Sea beaches of the Crimea and the Caucasus. Russians stayed in low cost accommodation like camping, removable rooms, motels, which can be compared with the 2-star hotel in Spain or Turkey.

With the collapse of the Soviet Union and the opening of borders Russian citizens began to visit the resorts in Turkey, Egypt, Greece, Tunisia, etc. This new destinations were much better than the Black Sea resorts and Russians noticeably preferred to look for holidays beyond their borders. Especially as they are much further south, and therefore offered more sun and a warmer sea. Russians would not travel abroad if service is weak and staying uncomfortable and expensive.

But resorts in Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece, Tunisia and Egypt are also imperfect. The summer seasons are to short with only 4 months hence it shortens the time Russians can spend holidays abroad during the year. Even a destination like Hurghada in Egypt is open for tourists only in the winter and at time it can become very cold over there.

However, development is going on at the resort to make it accessible from September through to May, when the Mediterranean resorts are not able to take because of the cold weather.

My case for Eritrea is the need of a new resort development that would have enough warm climate at a time when cold on the Mediterranean beaches and the need for holidays is still available and shifting more towards the autumn and winter period in Europe. Eritrea is a country with a long coastline, warm climate and lies relatively close to Europe. In this case, beach holiday in Eritrea did not compete, but complement the resorts of the Mediterranean.

This is why I am looking for partners or officials in Eritrea, who can help me to bring my Russian investors and decision makers in Eritrea together.

Concerning cooperation and proposals please contact Roman Khodus at tourism.afro@yandex.ru

  1. You can tell this Russian man is going to be rich one day. You don't make millions investing in saturated markets. You do that in developing countries with less competition. Smart man. I hope the GoE works with him. He seems committed to develop a resort in the country.

  9. I thought you Eritreans were proud to be a lone wolf. I thought you were on a *sustainable path to development that dint require foreign aid" I thought you didnt need outsiders help you develop your country. Well, I guess that was all talk. As they say it was all haters hating and whining. Why are you now excited and giggly like a 12 year old girl to see a Russian so called businessman come and invest in your barren land. BWY, who is this businessman without an identity or name. Was the information obtained from the same official/s that informed Madote about the Turkish Air Line saga.

Yes, Madote you tried banning me. Fortunately I am not in Eritrea.

  10. Russians now have a lot of money. Many rich Russian oilmen and businessmen. They are always trying to put their money in undeveloped markets where you can be the first one so you negotiate a favorable long-term deal.

  11. Open up the country....open up the country for foreign investment...it hurts the feeling of any true eritrean that after 23 years of independence that none of the coastal lines developed for tourism...200+ islands left idle for so long!! Men eyu tehatati????
now there is nothing we could do about the wasted apportunity except agonizing about it..
what we need is now accelerated 5 year plan to built extensive tourist destinations in the redsea...
we at least need 5billion dollars earmarked for such projects and this will make eritrea a prime destination not only Russians but italians !!
forget mining, tourism is the most sustainable industry bussiness that any country could have if it is run appropriately!! Eritrea is endowed with numerous islands, year round sunshine and hospitable people, what is missing is the political will of the president to open up the country for bussiness!!

  14. Non sense article. A business man who hasn't done his homework.

    The country is sanctioned.
The country is at no war no peace zone
The country is under a dictatorship regime.

Once again this is another BS like the turkey airline suppose flying to Eritrea on the 29th of May.

Bottle line is Eritrea is not a free market and it's a nightmare for businesses.

  15. First of all don't confuse foreign aid with business investment. We are always open for fair & balanced trade opportunities, we don't want to be lazy spoon fed zombies like our southern poster boy for begging neighbor. The only reason we aren't at the place we envisioned to be is because of all the conspiracies against us. Remember it was only. 5-6 years after 30 years of war of independence that we were hampered with our developmental goals. We were into a war with Ethiopia who until this day illegally occupies our territories. We have illegal sanctions put on us till this day. The number reason I hate with a passion these fake oppositions is they never say on thing to defend Eritrea as a nation, like the occupation or sanctions. They want to use things that negatively effects all Eritreans to advance their sinister desire to change the regime. Cowards will never rule the proud, strong Eritrean population. Only the strong survive & we are just laughing at the Agame boot lickers.

  21. I like the way Eritrean Gov. is doing in the domain of tourism (not intrusive rather sustainable) cause unaware engagement of one's Land like Sharm El Sheik in the upper Red Sea, and to mention a tourist destination in Italy like Sardinia, if administration will not take a serious action, then this lands will be irreparably polluted. Ours is known for its integrity, we need to keep it as so, and not for the sake of a savage tourism to damage our Land/See. Prize to GoE for the adaptation of some measures to ban plastic bags that are spoiling the barbarian world.

  22. I called to Asmara yesterday and asked if they watching the game, and they told me - "everyday is power outage here" 23 years independent but still walking backwards. We haven't even solved our energy proble.
Is the government going to tell the tourists to bring candle light with them?? The simplest solution is the government to take his dirty hands off business. Let the privet people ( Eritreans) invest in all sectors.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Agree with you brother/sister !
Eritrean business men thought about it right after independence, but they were banned to invest by the monster. If you remember one of the richest Eritrean who used to have industries in Kenya and Nigeria AHferom or Asmerom I think what his name is (RIP), he imported tourist boats and started tour from Massawa to Dhailak and he had a big plan to invest in resorts. Guess what happen, he got kicked out of Eritrea. There were guys from Germany who started diving tourism, targeting Europians and Americans. Guess what happen? They got forced out. Until HIGDEF is out you will never see any development in Eritrea.

  24. When someone agree with you he or she is Eritrea, but when they start to disagree with you, they are agames! Listen brother, people have different opinions and ideas some of us think the government is destroying our country and some of you think the gov. Is building the country. We have our factual information about Eritrea and you have FICTITIOUS information about Eritrea.
Finally, if you can't stand the heat, get the hell out of the kitchen.

  26. Just look at the picture, does this look resort to you??? For people who are impressed by this resort, I wish you to visit resorts in Punta Cana, Ocho Rios, Cancun....

    ReplyDelete
  27. You can't build the destinations(resort) with out the infrastructure (roads, clean water supply.....) ,you can't construct the infrastructure with out the money, you can't have the money if you and I don't pay the 2%, you can't pay the 2% if there is no accountability. Solution the Eritrean Government had to borrow money but this is against the principle of the government.

    ReplyDelete
  28. What heat?, I have not felt the heat, just smelled rubbish, btw I don't always support the government, i criticized it when it needs to. But unlike you i am 100% with my country, you agames and agame lovers side by side have demonstrated against the country and people of eritrea. Every time you hear negative news about eritrea, you jump up and down like Brazil just score a goal. Yes eritrea is the safest, and cleanest, and the people are the most friendly. This is what a German tourist who was visiting eritrea for 2nd time told me at hotel, in keren, in fact she happen to visit ethiopia as well, by comparison, she loved eritrea much better she brought her friend along with her. This is a fact not fiction. I know when you hear good news about eritrea it hurts you.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Abraham and Golden nation
I am sure you are enjoying the soccer games, but poor people of our country Eritrea are in the darkness and following the game with battery run radio like in the dark age. You would be ashamed to talk about multi billion dollar resorts before you solve the energy problems. If I were in charge , I would build solar powerplant that could produce 10MW and provide enough electricity to Massawa and its surrounding. Then I would let Eritrean investors to invest in businesses that would attract tourists. The government should let the people to do businesses and pay fair tax. Government running business = corruption, mismanagement and collapse. Juts look at Eritrean Airlines and other small industries theGovernment is running.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I never heared you discuss about the sanction and its consequence. Do you have any idea how sanction can affect a country?
Just asking you eventhough I know that you also know why the US/Ethiopia/opposition vote for sanction on the first place. To help you say what you now saying, but the people of Eritrea are more clever than you can EVER imagine.

  37. We wouldn't be sanctioned if we had not involved in Somalias problem. We should let theSomali deal with their problems. Would you invest your money in a company that is on the brink of bankruptcy ?? If the our leader was wise, he should deal the problems we have in our country, he should also implement the constitution and secure our solidity of the nation. The presidents action backfiring the nation with isolation and sanction.

Or ppl would set their auto correction setting. Out of all Belais comment you found BWY instead BTW and you making it as a big deal. Why don't your pea brain focus in what he is saying and reply him in accordance. I guess you don't have facts to challenge him.
The question he is asking is simple - who is this guy? Why should Russia invest in a country there is no enough running water and electricity? I know Eritrea is attractive to invest if there is a good governance.

  40. Any news that seem to have a positive look at Eritrea sends chillis down the psuedo-Eritreans that are calling madote.com home. From wicz to his groupies with infiriority complex ridden tigrai, posting under amhara name and so on has been the norm. Irony is 'ye abyn lig wuha temaw' was a reply to the zelekes 'abayn yalaye minch yamesegnal' JAHRAA. All the water body you have is miniscule compared to the Red Sea. If you are one of the zelekes you are blind to see what Eritrea is, a mesmerizing flower that subdues a stinging bee to use it for regeneration while rewarding the bee with honey for its toil.
You have tried hard to wage a psychological warfare but it has adversly letf you with paranoia and envy. The very fact Eritrea has not only servived the enemies ploy to twart its path of progress but guaranty harmony and trinquil life to its citizens is a bad nitemare you couldn't wake-up from.
Your attempts to saw discourse and creat a wedge between the people and the government has miserably failed. Your attack on the 2% voluntary contribution has failed you terribly; the national citizenary duty has kept you both at bay and has changed the landscape and mentalscape of the citizen. The very institutions you are trying to belittle are materalized by the peoples government and by the peoples army. On the other hand, you are crippled and live at the mercy of the handout of those that are no better than; you are comfortably numb.
A Russian with a stated name and a web link to connect, somehow is not enough information for zeleke to understand. Tourism, however, is the main strategy of the goEri and we have been working hard and showing progress to meet the need. We don't need anyone to tell us the potential and the resources we have at hand. But this is also targeted by the enemy quarters as over 100K Eritreans visit the fatherland in the short three months of summer alone. Connect the dots and you will see that the proposed ban on some ligit Eritreans to travel to Eritrea is being weaved. Canada's inhumane and discriminatory attack on the 2% voluntary contribution is evident. Religion and ethnicity devide is an old and tired method when it comes to Eritrea, but this too is being tirelessly propogated. Constitution, freedom of press and so on are just a tool for the imperial powers to bend you down low into servitude.
In the age of the internet and satellite broadcasting how is it considered a goverment can deny its people these freedoms? In my opinion this is a fallesy to inistgate and incriminate those that dont conform to the West's slave and master mentality. However, the foster child of the West; Ethiopia was caught with its hands in the cookie jar, both meliciously infecting unsuspecting peoples computers hardware and tampering with internationally floating satellite signals with U.S. furnished malwares. The list is endless, and Eritrea is indeed the only country that is going to be a catalist to the the inevitable change of the 'new new world order' that is on the horizon.

  41. According to your own words you clearly stand pro-sanction because you dislike the President of Eritrea and trying your best to accuse him for he supports Somalis, without any evidence. All who tried with such alligation failed miserably and you will soon eat up your heart when the sanction is lifeted soon. Prepare yourself to invent unproved excuse but the klock is ticking and tricking you back like legesse.

She is saying we have not developed the tourism industry to the desired level in the last 23 years and she is right. The gov of Eritrea will say to her yes, Selam you are right. Instead you wanted to intimidate her using dirty words. You must be stupid raised in a filthy family who does not have ant ethical, moral upraising. What happen to you you speak only dirty. You do not know other, better ways of saying it. What a shame

  49. We have some unknown personalities who believe that they represent the government and decide about how people should react. As self-appointed lawyers, the know-it-alls believe that they do favour to the government. But infact they harm the Government's reputition. Sometimes I get confused as to why people feel superior of another on the same boat, eventhough they do not have any clue at all. God knows who is right. But for me, they are destructors who create misunderstandings and gaps among the people, for personal interest.
