Lufthansa Airlines Request to Start Flights Back to Asmara
Lufthansa Airlines has sent an application to the Eritrean government requesting to commence flights to Asmara, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
According to the source, the German Airliner's suspension of flights to Asmara wasn't really about currency issues, but rather the pressures it had from the United States and European Union to not carry human remains for burial in Eritrea, and not to deliver diplomatic packages to Eritrean embassies.
Along with the application, the source says Lufthansa attached a letter it had received from UN Sanction Committee on Eritrea.
