London, March 02, 2014 - The program started with a moment of silence to honor the selfless Martyrs who gave us their precious lives for us to live in dignity, with young kids from the group Aser performed the national anthem and various other national songs.
Mr Muluberhan Berhe, Coordinator of the Public Affairs office, who made an introductory statement and gave an insight into some major activities of the public campaign, and work plan of the Eritrean National Organisation UK for 2014/2015, outlining the purposes of the public campaign being on strengthening organisation, and conspiracies and psychological warfare being waged against the Eritrean people. He also remind participants on looking on the background of the Eritrean struggle on political, cultural, economic, and diplomatic experiences thereby the reshaping of strengthening of these activities on the ever changing dynamics of current affairs and called upon citizens to redouble their efforts to this regard based on the experiences gained so far.
Also taking stage the Chairman of the National Organisation UK Board, Mr Ahmed Mahmoud, gave updates on future plans it has drawn up giving detailed explanations on each plan and its work that it has delegated to various organisations which includes NUEW, YPFDJ, PFDJ, Public Diplomacy.
Following this Eritrean Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Ireland, H.E. Tefamicael Gerahtu gave the participants of the seminar extensive briefing regarding situation in Eritrea. He said, Eritrea has come through successive obstacles and animosities in the past years and the disguised hostilities against the Eritrean people. He carried on saying that, history is witness of the Eritrean people’s triumph to the fact that they have always prevailed against all odds. With the cultured and rule abiding people and leadership that has progressive and realistic policies, Eritrea has become exemplary that those who have agenda of domination have openly become hostile against the Eritrean people. He expressed conviction to resist, during which the development progress of Eritrea is registering promising results and citizens expressing resolve to invest in their country. Ambassador also reminded the participants that, our biggest responsibility to the Eritrean martyrs is to never compromise Eritrea’s national security, and provided an in depth reports and update on the latest Embassy and Consular services.
After solidarity speeches by representatives, Ms Lia Berhane, YPFDJ Chairperson put in plain words that extensive preparations are underway both in the UK and across Europe, in which hundreds of youth delegates and representatives of Eritrean communities will take part on YPFDJ 10th Conference in Swiss from 17th-21st April 2014. She said that this historic conference is being held at a decisive juncture in our history, when our country is both meeting the challenges to our national sovereignty head on, and confidently marching forward in building a prosperous nation that owns its destiny. These great endeavors have required the role of Eritrean youth both at home and aboard. The participants affirmed and called all Eritrean nationals in UK to stand alongside the youth, and to work towards making the 10th YPFDJ Conference successful regardless of any difficulties. Finally she also gave updates on its work that it’s conducting in the UK. The participants on their part expressed their willingness and readiness to enhance their contribution towards the ongoing nation building process and that they will always stand alongside their people and Government and will rebuff any external conspiracies by strengthening their unity and will defend their nation whatever the cost.
Mr Suleiman Hasan, Head of the Consular Affairs of the Embassy of Eritrea gave updates on current affairs including on Eritrean national identity giving background on the temporary identity cards and the work on the department immigration has done towards the new structure of the identity cards and detailed information on what is needed to get the new Eritrean identity card.
Following this the long awaited seminar by Mrs Sophia Tesfamariam, Director of the US Foundation for the Horn of Africa, on her part she focused on five dimensions. On the psychological warfare taking place reminding that even though the real war is waged on EDF soldiers on the grounds but also the entire population being part of the war through psychological warfare, she focused on five dimensions. History of Eritrea, EPLF Values, Psychological warfare, Eritreanism, the wars waged on it and its defence. Eritrean diaspora. As Sophia Tesfamariam preferred to refer to the event with a more casual term that reflects the familial atmosphere. Sophie opened by acknowledging the most immediate national holiday, International Women's day on March 8th. Then as a lead - into the topics of the agenda, she briefed on how our culture and history make for a uniquely patriotic and proud Diaspora. From there, the speech moved into a number of matters including freedom of religion, reduction in cases of transmittable illnesses, the UN, investment, education, political issues and development in general. At the end Sophie outlined Eritrea’s future is guaranteed because of the internal strengths that has been created together with strong organisations and all of the policies of the Government of Eritrea come to the basics and embeds strong organisation. To this regard the concept of development has to be always linked to meaningful organisation. National unity through organisation for Eritrean interest.
Finally Ambassador Tesfamichael Gerahtu further noted that all organisations belong to the Eritrean people and called up on all citizens to become active participants for further strengthening the National Organisation UK. After detailed review of organisational experiences the Ambassador expressed satisfaction on the commencements of various organisations throughout the UK and stressed that participants see through the success of these efforts and asked the cooperation with the new Ambassador taking office in the near future. Towards the end participants like always put forward their views and support as well as questions that were addressed accordingly.
