Sudanese president Omer Al-Bashir begins on Thursday a three-day visit to Asmara where he will hold meetings with Eritrean president Isaias Afwerki to bolster bilateral and regional cooperation.
According to an official, Bashir’s high-level delegation includes the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ali Ahmed Karti, and Director General of the Security Service and National Intelligence Service Gen. Mohamed Atta Mawla Abbas.
Over the last few years, the two countries have increased economic and political co‑operation, including developing joint projects such as the new strategic coastal road linking the Eritrean port of Massawa and Port Sudan.
Meanwhile, President Isaias met with Egypt President's Special Envoy in Asmara today; the two sides discussed situations in Egypt, the region, and bilateral ties.
"Eritrea is confident Egypt will pass the current test and become key factor for regional stability and cooperation." Said President Isaias to the Egyptian envoy.
