Eritrea Hosts the Next General Assembly of ASARECA
The Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA) concluded its 2nd biannual General Assembly in Bujumbura, Burundi on the 13th of December during which it was decided to hold the next General Assembly in Eritrea.
Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Arefaine Berhe led the Eritrean delegation that included Mr. Semere Amlesom, Dean of the Hamelmalo Agricultural College as well as some researchers from the Halhale Agricultural Research Center.
The aim of the Association is to increase the efficiency of agricultural research in order to enhance productivity, competitiveness and to add value for agricultural systems in the sub-region.
Besides the participation of the Ministers of the member countries, Board members and the Secretariat, about 500 agricultural scientists mainly from Research Centers, Universities and the Business Community present research outcomes in every General Assembly.
ASARECA is a sub-regional organization established in 1994 by 10 member countries: Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda. South Sudan, the 11th member, joined in 2011.
