Eritrea's HIV Prevalence nearly declines in Half
Eritrea's HIV prevalence has nearly declined in half over the last 8 years[1]. The latest World Health Ogranization data shows HIV prevalence in Eritrea went from being 1.4% in 2002, to 0.8% in 2009. This dramatic decline can be attributed to the prioritization of health by the Eritrean government, as well as mass awareness programs through state television, radios, newspapers, billboards, and the relentless efforts exerted by regional health physicians throughout the country.
The following is a chart of HIV prevalence in the horn of Africa
Horn Nations | People with HIV | Percent |
---|---|---|
Eritrea | 25,000 est. | .08% |
Sudan | 250,000 est. | 1.1% |
Djibouti | 14,000 est. | 2.5% |
Ethiopia | 1.2 million | 2.4% |
Somalia | 34,000 est. | .07% |
