Eritrea is the only African Nation to cut off USAID

Eritrea is the only African nation that has not requested USAID for the fiscal year of 2011, according to the U.S. Department of State, Office of Foreign Assistance.
In keeping inline with its self-reliance policy, the Government of Eritrea stopped requesting financial assistance from the United States since 2005, and fully cut off all third party NGO's that were financially sponsored by the U.S. after 2006.
The government believes foreign assistance breeds a culture of dependency that shackles African countries into a perpetual cycle of poverty.
Recently, a growing number of economic experts have been taking the same position as the Government of Eritrea by stating aid to Africa is doing more harm than good.
Economist such as Dambisa Moyo argue aid to Africa is making African countries poorer. Moyo, who has a Doctorate in Economics from Oxford University and a Masters from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, described foreign aid as, "easy money that fosters corruption and distorts economies, creating a culture of dependency and economic laziness." (ABC).
The following chart below shows the top 10 highest aid recipients from the United states. Please keep in mind these figures are only from the United States and do not include other donor nations that contribute substantially to their yearly fiscal budgets. ReplyDeleteThis makes sense why the United States demonizes Eritrea the way it does, while rewarding their puppet states such as Ethiopia. Glad to see Eritrea is the only independent nation in Africa. Ethiopia is the cancer of Africa.

ReplyDeleteAs Eritreans, let's just do our business. Let's be proud of who we are, and at the same time be humble because we still have a long way to go. Let's be happy because we are on the right track. Let's not compare ourselves with the rich nations, because most of them got there through hard work. Let's not compare with the poor nations either because although on right path we are still poor like most of them are. Let's keep the promise of our martyrs, the prayer of our mothers, the hope and aspiration of our youth.
I am Erirean American who lives and works in Us for the past 8 years.
ReplyDeletestarted as loom operator and currently promoted to process engineer through hard work and dedication. Always told my American friends as a nation Eritrea is an example of what people should be. We need to tel to every coworker about our mother land and her childeren. It is our tax money that the rest African dectators manage to take. We need to be able to try stop this money. Look how our schools are struggling in US and what do the future of our kids look if we are going to give & give money for who ever he or she is.

ReplyDeleteGod bless eritrea & the eritrean people.Self relaince is the way to prospours nation. God bless our visionary leaders.
ReplyDeleteYes, every Eritrean must feel proud about the policy the gov't of Eritrea is following. Through hard work and self reliance, which the western world tried to demonize Eritrea in the media, have Eritreans proved that it is the only way forward. Africa is a continent which has immense resources if it not exploited by the western world. Let us wake up and work in order to retain our respect as human beings. Eritrea has set a clear example. Follow the right path, avoid aid and let Africans work. God bless Eritrea and Africa!

Yes we have so much to be proud of massive refugees in neighboring countries. What's is self reliance if you can not take care of your citizens.

America uses USAID as a means to control the country. This makes me proud to be rid of the puppet master of the world and still survive for 3 years.
